Functions

Functions

A Function is when two variables are so related that assigning a value to one determines the value of the other. In the function Y = X + 2, what is the value of Y?  You would not know unless you assign a value for x.  Y depends upon X for its value.  Y and X are so related that for every value assigned for X there corresponds a unique value for Y.  So we can say that Y is a function of X.

Example:  Your monthly water bill will depends on the amount of water used for a month. Your water bill is a function of the amount of water used.
